HBCU Making Moves College Tours

Our History

It all started in 1987, 35 years ago when Carl Ray put four boys on a plane, flew them into Atlanta, rented a van and took them to Tuskegee’s Homecoming. Since that one trip, over 5500 high school and community college students have attended the tours. Helping Carl on these tours always were his trusted friends Reginald Braddock, Brenda Long and John Wright, all four Tuskegee Institute Graduates. Sadly, Carl passed away in 2015. Today, Reggie, Brenda and myself continue where Carl left off. We have never stopped. We continue the work, the commitment, the duty, and the responsibility of the Tours because of the impact that it has upon the kids. We have had students (especially our young men) that have never dreamed of going to college, end up going to college, graduate and become very, very successful.

What is our HBCU Making Moves Tour about

Our HBCU Making Moves Tour focuses on exposing your child to what can be realized through education. The accomplishments range from (but are not limited to) the richness of cultures, histories, traditions, legacies, heritage, and pride. The student has a chance to meet and talk with Professors and student body who will support their endeavors to be successful.

Along with visits to numerous HBCU campuses, there are many cultural and historical sites that will be visited pertaining to African American Culture.

When your child returns from the Making Moves Tour, it is hoped that they will have gained a sense of pride in themselves inspiring them to greater strives. Making Moves is there for a continuance of lifeline support, guidance, and mentoring as your child will continue to be shadowed throughout high school and college graduation.

What makes us different than all other tours

Unlike other tours our Making Moves chaperones have attended HBCU’s and have a personal interest in each child’s academic aspiration. Because our chaperones have firsthand experience, they can aid in navigating your child through decision making and answering all questions they may have pertaining to HBCU’s.

It’s your History, Culture, Heritage, and your Legacy. It’s a school that was built just for you, a school where the President, Professors and student body looks just like you. It is where you will be nurtured and challenged to grow to your fullest potential.

HBCU Life

It is a place where you are valued, respected and loved. It is a place where you will learn about yourself and learn to love yourself for who you are. It is a place where you can see so many wonderful Black Women and Men doing so many amazing things. It’s a Sisterhood, a Brotherhood.

Why go to an HBCU

It’s home away from home, its family. It’s a place where everyone holds each other down. Where everybody is somebody. It’s a community, and support. It’s where you share the same experiences, like the same songs, and wear the same clothes. A place where you will not be judged for your hair, clothing or your intelligence questioned.
